02/18/24 - arrival and roosting
She arrived before dawn, moved between perch and nest a few times, flew off at least once only to return in minutes, then finally settled in to roost. As of mid morning, she’s still resting head down and I will not be surprised if she stays until dusk. Overnight freezing temps may have brought her in, too. Between snoozes, she rearranges the wood shavings and blue jay feathers again. I think this is the female and her mate is in the trees nearby keeping an eye on things, or so I have witnessed in past years. He is very, very difficult to spot!
