02/23/24 - predawn checkin
This pair is showing a serious respect for circadian rhythms, as they returned last night 3 minutes after sunset. They did not stay long before heading out into the night to hunt. Watch the short video carefully to see one owl on the perch while the other does a flyby.
About a half hour before dawn, they both arrived and repeated the behavior of multiple arrivals and departures. When down in the nest, their calling - the trill sound - is strong, subtly varied, and quite sustained at times. They both were at the house at the same time several times again this morning, sometimes exchanging spots. If we only knew what the chatter was about, whether answered or ignored. And it sure seems like the one on the perch just got a serious talking to before flying off.
