02/24/24 - a short stopover
Last night they arrived about a half hour after sunset, running (flying?) a bit late. One of their overnight visits was brief, but the arrival is still dramatic as you can hear the talons hit the perch at speed. At the very beginning of the video, for a split second there is the second owl doing a flyby in the lower left corner. Which owl is which? Without being able to identify them individually, I could only guess at this point whether they are male or female, long time visitor or newcomer. The females are slightly larger, but their markings are mostly the same. No dawn arrival today, which is not consistent with recent behavior. My theory is she’s out and about while she can, as once she lays eggs she will rarely leave the treehouse until they hatch. Further guesses are they both visit to claim the treehouse until they are ready.
